Saturday 6th October
Midlands League 3 East North
Kesteven 57 Nottingham Moderns 5

The sun shone on Woodnook again on Saturday as Kesteven looked to keep their unbeaten run intact. James Goodrich was unavailable so in a reshuffle Matt Harland came in at full back with Keiran Taylor moving to the centre.

Kesteven started well. Moderns won the ball at a line out in their own half but the home forwards were through quickly. Jamie Flear ripped the ball clear and Parker slipped the ball through to Taylor who ran a good line to score in the corner with less than five minutes gone. K's kept the pressure up with a penalty by Harland before Moderns had a chance with a penalty. The kick failed but Moderns had a spell on the attack before Whittaker lit up Woodnook with a great run from his own line. He was stopped just short but James Cowley showed a great turn of speed to get up in support to claim the ball to score. Moderns were still presenting the home team with problems as they also sought to play open rugby but the Kesteven defence held well with some great tackling. Kesteven finished the half well when Parker made a fine break. The support this time came from the pack and Scott Odams showed great presence to scamper over from 20 metres for a try. Then at the end of the half a Kesteven attack was stopped just short of the lone. Moderns had the scrum but the Kesteven pack pushed them off their own ball to allow Turner to end the half with a try. Half time score was 23 - 0 to Kesteven, with the bonus point in tne bag.
At half time Pert and Brown were replaced by Webster and Sheardown. Moderns started the half well and came clsoe to scoring but again the defence held. They were undone when they conceded a free kick at a scrum close to the Kesteven line, and compounded the error with some back chat. From the penalty Turner pushed the ball deep into the Moderns half and from the line out Turner finished off a blind side move with his second try. Harland was replaced by Jordan at this point. This setteld the issue as Kesteven strated to run more freely. Odams added his second try, converted by Parker and from the restart Turner completed his hat trick with another fine run, finishing off a move in whihc Jamie Flear did well to keep the ball alive. Hughes got his try with fine support to a break by Parker before Harland, who had come back on as replacement for Whittaker, made a fine break. He realised he could not get clear and sent a beautifully weighted kick out to the wing. Turner timed his run to perfection to pick the ball up at speed before he ran behind the posts where he passed tha ball to Harland to score the try/ Moderns had continued to play good open rugby and were rewarded with a try of their own five minutes from time before Woolerton brought the curtain down on another fine win with a try at the posts to give Parker a simple conversion. The final score was Kesteven 57 Moderns 5. The win maintains Kesteven's position at the top of the league.
Team was M Harland; J Ughes, C Hudson, K Taylor, A Whittaker; M Parker, K Lines; S Odams, A Brown, G Purvis, W Pert, J Cowley, J Flear, D Turner and T Woolerton Replacements R Jordan, R Sheardown, T Webster.
