Following the defeat to HMP Ranby 2 weeks ago and the no show of Belper last week, the Kesteven second team were eager to prove that the Ranby result was a mere blip in the season, and with skipper Pete Dolan on International duty it was left to stand in captain Doug Hayward to rally the side.

This he managed with some style, and it was with his mantra of 0-0 ringing in the players ears that they set about demolishing the visitors. Posession was never going to be an issue with the selected pack and Hanson, Coghill and the marauding back row of Jinks, Richard Dolan and Midgeley were revelling in the open spaces available.

It was midgeley who opened the scoring following a bullocking run from Jinks for a score under the posts, and in no mood to let up and with captian Hayward barking the 0-0 mantra it was Hanson who was next to score from close range following good work from Midgeley supported by Morgan. If East retford thought the forwards were to be the only kesteven source of points, they hadn't bargained on the blistering pace of the three quarters, with Rupert Jordan to the fore looking to run everything at every opportunity and he streaked through from full back to score the first of his 5 (!) tries. The retford resolve did not appear at all in the first half and the tries flowed with Tom Price, Ollie Hughes, Rob Windsor and Brad Jepson adding to the scores. With several excellent conversions from Price the half time score was an immense 64-0.

Jordan Smith and Ian MacAllister joined the retford ranks for the second period as the game took it's toll on the visitors and it was no surprise that their game improved and Kesteven found it harder to score with their own guys in opposition.
Jordan Hughes, Ian Charles and John Cunningham all came on for the secodn half to give fresh legs with Hughes scoring with almost his first touch after another line break from Jinks ably supported by Jordan and Jepson. East retford to their credit never gave up and caused more problems in the second period but the Dog Pack were determined to keep their score to nil with aggresive and organised defence. It would have been a travesty had the impressie Jinks not made the scoresheet and following a midfield beak he outsprinted the defence like a centre to cross the whitewash. Further scores were to follow from Charles, Jepson with a second and Price completed a well deserved hat trick for a fine all round display.

The final score was an outstanding 105-0, which was thoroughly deserved for the spirit in which Kesteven attacked the game at every opportunity. Every player was outstanding as they dominated every area of the game and I will only single out Jordan Smith and Ian MacAllister for playing for East retford and creating more than a few headaches for their team mates.

Thanks also to Retford who made the trip when other sides have decided against it, played the game with a tremendous attitude and never gave up. Next week the second team will entertain Bakewell for another league game.

Team:
Smith T, Hayward, King, Hanson, Coghill, Jinks, Dolan R, Midgeley, Morgan, Price T, Windsor, Burton, Jepson, Hughes O, Jordan R Subs: Hughes J, Charles, Cunningham, Smith J, MacAllister
